Here we are visiting a ger (pron. "gare"). Many of you have been asking if we have been in one yet. Mongolians are so hospitable and will offer even complete strangers something to eat if they stop by, as this man did while we were there. He was out looking for his lost bull and wondering if they had seen it.

The woman was in the middle of making a batch of yogurt. You need to keep stirring it most of the day until it starts to firm up...
like this!
They scooped some out for us to try and added a little sugar to it. It tasted pretty good. Maybe a little more sugar, though. :)
And here is dinner! Not quite sure what it was, but it was probably horse. We didn't stay for dinner, unfortunately.
The inside of a ger is very bright and ornately decorated. Here are the wood polls that hold up the ceiling. The entire structure goes together without a single nail or screw.
Here is the outside of a ger. The stove pipe comes out the middle and the canvas flap can be opened and closed to let more light in. There is another layer of thick wool underneath the canvas that keeps these portable houses nice and toasty!
Until next time... :)
